None of them could tell me what the standards were talking about...if these people can't understand them, how are they going to help students through this morass?

The standards are designed to be robust and relevant to the real world, reflecting the knowledge and skills that our young people need for success in college and careers.

I know what robust beer is but I don't know what "robust" standards actually means. I spent 17 years in business using mathematics in every way imaginable...most of what is in the CCSS has no relevance to how people use math in the real world. More than 30% of students across the nation aren't even finishing high school much less preparing for college. Little of the math people need for the workforce is in the CCSS and it is not emphasized where it can be found.

With American students fully prepared for the future, our communities will be best positioned to compete successfully in the global economy.

Actually the standards movement is having the opposite affect. High stakes testing has taken the focus off of students who have the ability to compete on the global stage and put the major focus on bringing the bottom of the academic curve up to a very mediocre level. This strategy wouldn't make anyone or anything competitive anywhere.....The Deanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12497565901960706033noreply@blogger.com
