"I know no safe depository of the ultimate powers of the society but the people themselves; and if we think them not enlightened enough to exercise their control with a wholesome discretion, the remedy is not to take it from them, but to inform their discretion by education. This is the true corrective of abuses of constitutional power." - Thomas Jefferson 1820

"There is a growing technology of testing that permits us now to do in nanoseconds things that we shouldn't be doing at all." - Dr. Gerald Bracey author of Rotten Apples in Education

Would You Do Anything to Get a Better Education for Your Kids?

Read the case of Kelley Williams-Bolar who was sentenced to 10 days in jail, 80 hours of community service and may lose her teaching license because she registered her kids in a different school district from the one she lived in using false information and decide which way you would have voted if you were on the jury. Tough Case, but Fraud in this Case is Still Fraud.

The Open Enrollment concept is making its way through the Missouri legislature which would allow people to send their kids to the school of their choosing, legalizing what Ms. Williams-Bolar did for her children. Does the author of this article have a point in saying she stole from the people who paid the local property taxes for their school district? If everyone is paying taxes but not necessarily using the school district where their taxes go, is that a fair distribution of funding or a fair use of services?

We'd love to hear your comments.

  1. I have no children, therefore I don't utilize my local school system at all. I view paying the same taxes to that district as a family with 5 kids in school as fraud/theft in itself.
