"I know no safe depository of the ultimate powers of the society but the people themselves; and if we think them not enlightened enough to exercise their control with a wholesome discretion, the remedy is not to take it from them, but to inform their discretion by education. This is the true corrective of abuses of constitutional power." - Thomas Jefferson 1820

"There is a growing technology of testing that permits us now to do in nanoseconds things that we shouldn't be doing at all." - Dr. Gerald Bracey author of Rotten Apples in Education

AN ACT

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the state of Missouri, as follows:

  1. Common core amounts to a educational plan based on a series of sweeping assumptions by people who have never taught a class, who do not understand the scope and sequence involved in planning and teaching a subject, who do not understand how people learn, and whose arrogance is sickening. Students across the nation who are disadvantaged will be lost and never found in this process. The common core and its assessment plans have never been piloted, never been field tested, or implemented by proven educators. Instead it has been trotted out as a magic bullet and is being promoted as such. In the meantime, students will be experimented with and their educational process can be compromised. Example: the assessment style of the CC is diametrically opposed to the ACT style of testing. By selling out to CC, we could actually be hurting ACT. Say goodbye to the themes taught through great literature. Say goodbye to right brain learners. Say hello to idealistic educational voodoo from inexperienced, know-it-all witch doctors.
